چکیده

Mice injected intraperitoneally with isolated cell wall fragments of Group A streptococci develop a carditis similar to that previously observed in mice injected with crude extracts of this organism. Neither the soluble cytoplasmic components of Group A streptococcal cells nor the nonfragmented cell walls produced carditis in this experimental model. Fluorescein and (125)I-labeled antibodies specific for Group A streptococcal cell wall antigens were used to demonstrate that, for 5 wk after injection, cell wall material is localized around the sites of active lesions in the heart. In addition, the cell wall antigen accumulates in the liver, spleen, mediastinal lymph nodes, and the adjacent loose connective tissue, where it persists for at least 10 wk.

Relation of Rheumatic-like Cardiac Lesions of T H E Mouse to Localization of Group a Streptococcal Cell

I t has been demonstrated that a single intradermal injection of cell wall fragments of Group A streptococci into rabbit skin will initiate a chronic granulomatous lesion characterized by remissions and exacerbations (1-3). A basic feature of the pathogenesis of this experimental lesion is the relationship between lesion activity and the ability of the host to eliminate the cell wall material f...

Functional and Developmental Analysis of CD4+CD25+ Regulatory T Cells under the Influence of Streptococcal M Protein in Rheumatic Heart Disease

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of streptococcal M protein in naturally-occurring CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (nTregs) function and development in rheumatic heart disease in Iraqi patients. Streptococcus pyogenes was isolated for subsequent M protein extraction. Also, peripheral blood nTregs and CD4+ T cells were isolated by using Magnetic Cell Separation System. Tissue cul...

Induction of autoimmune valvular heart disease by recombinant streptococcal m protein.

Rheumatic heart disease is an autoimmune sequela of group A streptococcal infection. Previous studies have established that streptococcal M protein is structurally and immunologically similar to cardiac myosin, a well-known mediator of inflammatory heart disease. In this study, we investigated the hypothesis that streptococcal M protein could produce inflammatory valvular heart lesions similar ...

Effects of Ecstasy on Mouse Cardiac Histopathology, Electrocardiogram and Blood Cell Counts

Background and Aims: Ecstasy or 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is a brain stimulant and a hallucinogenic material prepared by chemical changes in amphetamine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes induced by this drug in mouse cardiac histopathology, electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood cell counts. Materials and Methods: In this experiment, 3 groups (n=10) of mice were e...
